Miners Turn on Manchin, a Fossil Fuel-Loving Dinosaur
Can you teach an old dinosaur new tricks? West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin's resistance to Build Back Better has so far deprived the United States of the bill’s much-needed climate and financial benefits.
But now, West Virginians are swinging into action. United Mine Workers of America (UMWA) released a statement listing a whole variety of reasons they support Build Back Better and urging Manchin to vote in support of the bill.
Build Back Better aligns with the UMWA's very own Principles for Energy Transition, will help fund benefits for victims of coal workers' pneumoconiosis and help employ coal miners who have lost their jobs. It will also financially penalize anti-union employers.
